Through My Lens: A Ledge as a Meeting Place

I’m struck by how naturally this ledge becomes a place to stop and stay.

There’s no signage, no designated seating, no obvious invitation—just a low edge at the right height, in the right location, at the right moment. And that seems to be enough.

What’s interesting to me isn’t that people are sitting here, but how unremarkable it feels once they are. The space quickly reads as a place to meet, to pause, to talk—without needing to be told that it’s one.

I took this picture at lunchtime on a hot day in Manhattan and it reminded me once again of the many reasons to love living in a big city.

Yes, last time I visited New York it amazed me how the life was on the street. So different from most of America, I have to say!
